How It Started
Abayuuti Climate Action Network began in 2020 doing community cleanups in the slum areas of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. In the same year, Uganda was hit by floods in various parts of the country, and they began organising various relief projects for flood-displaced people. As the year went by, Uganda continued to face severe flooding, and tens of thousands of people were being displaced while many people lost lives and property. Recognizing the broader challenges posed by climate change in the country, Abayuuti expanded its focus to address critical issues such as sustainable livelihoods, climate change advocacy, capacity building, and education.
In 2021, the organisation was legally registered as they started implementing projects addressing climate mobility issues in Uganda and supporting climate-displaced communities. Since then, Abayuuti Climate Action Network has impacted over 2,000 climate displaced people and other vulnerable communities through different programs.
Today, Abayuuti operates in three districts - Kampala, Kasese, and Fort Portal - impacting thousands of lives through its diverse programs.
