A knitted version of Sandringham House has raised a five figure sum for the National Health Service during its summer display at The Queen’s Norfolk home.
The woolen version of the much loved royal residence has been on display at Sandringham itself throughout the summer. The exhibition came to an end on September 24th 2021 and it’s just been announced that the creation raised £11,849 during its time at the famous house.
The knitting is the creation of 92 year old Margaret Seaman who said she began the project to keep busy. As the total raised by the display at Sandringham was announced, Margaret reflected ”it’s been a summer that I could never have imagined.” She added ”I never thought my knitting would raise so much for charity. I’m so pleased, it’s been such a hard time for everyone during the pandemic and I’m just glad I’ve made people smile and helped our local hospitals. I will cherish these special royal memories.”
Three local health organisations will benefit from the money. One of them is the Boudicca Breast Cancer Appeal at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital which is raising funds for a dedicated breast cancer unit at the site. The funds will also go towards a maternity bereavement suite at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and to the ‘Raise a Rainbow’ appeal, a community improvement project at the James Paget Hospital.
The five figure sum raised by the knitting during its time at Sandringham is just part of the money brought in by Margaret Seaman’s display. So far, it has raised over £20,000 in total.
It’s time in the spotlight isn’t over yet. The knitted version of Sandringham is now off to France where it will star in a four day textiles festival in Nantes called ”Pour L’ Amour du Fil’.
