Pollution. It’s a massive problem. And plastic pollution is visible on any beach or roadside on the island. Empty water bottles on the sand, plastic bags in the sea… A new photo exhibition focuses on the theme of ‘Plastic Pollution – another threat to the beauty of our sand and sea & key contributor to environmental degradation’ and opens on World Tourism Day, September 27.
Taking place at Ayia Napa’s Thalassa Museum, the exhibition is organised in cooperation with the British High Commission and in line with the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties that the UK will co-host in Glasgow this November. As such, the British High Commissioner, the Shipping Deputy Minister and the Mayor of Ayia Napa will attend the exhibition opening.
All three honorary guests will speak at the event, addressing the theme and the exhibited works. Then Chairman of the Cyprus Sustainable Tourism Initiative Philippos Droushiotis will talk about World Tourism Day, tourism for inclusive growth and climate change – an initiative bringing them all together. Following the opening remarks, the photography exhibition will officially open at 6.45pm along with a local producers’ fair and a reception with traditional delights.
