It was music to the ears for jazz fans on Saturday as attendees at Guildford Castle, Surrey were treated to live entertainment with the aim of raising vital funds for charity.
Guildford Jazz raised over £5,500 for charitable fund Guildford Philanthropy at the sold out event held in the award-winning castle grounds.
Organisers hosted 400 visitors who enjoyed live Latin music by popular jazz supergroup, Picante, who played music inspired by Buena Vista social club and the Gipsy Kings.
Local charities Foodwise, Neat2Eat and the Matrix Trust, who Guildford Philanthropy have supported, offered refreshments and food including Venezuelan arepas and loaded fries.
Chairman of Guildford Philanthropy, Peter Cluff, said: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying live jazz music in the beautiful castle grounds on Saturday. We really appreciate everyone who attended and supported us.
“We have managed to raise over £5,500 which is a staggering amount of money. We aim to help less-advantaged members of our community and this money will go towards helping people who need support. Special thanks to Guildford Jazz, Picante, Guildford Borough Council and everyone who helped put this event together.
“Raising awareness and finding new donors is a constant challenge which is why we are so grateful to Guildford Jazz and to everyone who attended. We also encourage local businesses to get involved. We currently have 26 organisations signed up as corporate ambassadors, including Guildford Jazz, who we bring together to both network and help their local community.”
Lead councillor for community and housing, Julia McShane, said: “I’m really pleased that this event to raise funds for Guildford Philanthropy was successful and enjoyed by so many people.
“If you missed the event and would like to help, you can do so in our community lottery. Our lottery also supports over 130 other local good causes, giving people an opportunity to choose which charities and community groups they would most like to support. Find out how you can play at”
