Golfers teeing off in bid to tackle hygiene poverty – In Your Area

North West charity Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank, has been working hard in planning its inaugural fundraising golf day.
The charity dedicated to collecting and distributing toiletries and hygiene products for those in need, has already successfully sold all 24 places for teams of four.
They have already attracted sponsorship from several businesses, including Anwyl Homes Lancashire, who have provided a gift pack of golf balls, tees, divot repair tool and golf cap clip to be included in special goodie bags for everyone taking part.
The golf day will take place at Wilmslow Golf Club on September 23 and amongst those teeing-off will be a team from Anwyl Homes Cheshire & North Wales.
Wendy Hobson, one of the co-founders of the charity, said: “We’ve had a terrific response from businesses wanting to support us. After having our corporate donations hit hard by Covid over the last 18 months it’s great to have such good support from the local business community.
“Our charity is built around the ethos that no one should have to choose between eating and keeping clean and we are doing everything we can.”
Founded by two friends in 2018, Bare Necessities Toiletry Bank is tackling hygiene poverty head-on, collecting new and unused toiletries and hygiene products and distributing them through food banks, schools, homeless charities, women’s refuges and other organisations.
During the COVID-19 pandemic they also provided ‘comfort packs’ for frontline NHS staff being housed in temporary accommodation.

Based in Wilmslow, the charity’s support extends across the wider Manchester area, Stockport and Cheshire East and, where possible, they respond to requests for help from other parts of the North West.
John Grime, managing director of Chorley-based Anwyl Homes Lancashire, said: “When we heard about the valuable work Wendy and her team are doing to tackle hygiene poverty, we were keen to help out. So often we take so much for granted and it really stops you in your tracks when you hear about families sharing one toothbrush or having to ration toilet paper.
Other businesses providing support for the event include Bentley Manchester, Healthwork, Locktons and Morson Group. Auction prizes donated for the post-match dinner include four-balls at Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool and Carden Park golf clubs, a meal out with a chauffeur driven Bentley and a signed Marcus Rashford football shirt.
The charity can accept cash donations to buy items and also has a series of collection boxes around Wilmslow where people can donate new and unopened toiletries and hygiene products for men, women, teens and children.
