“UNRWA has endeavored to take every possible precaution to minimize any potential environmental impact in the planning of this project,” the organization said in a press statement.
“Both the Ministry of Environment and an independent Environmental and Social Impact Assessment concluded that no material adverse environmental consequences are expected from the project. Furthermore, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, UNRWA will plant more than 500 trees on its compound and another 1,000 trees in future, to compensate for the 165 trees trimmed. Finally, the generation of electricity through renewable/ green sources will offset over 3,000 tons of CO2 per year, contributing to improve air quality of residents.”
“With this project, UNRWA is committed to the Sustainable Development Goals, and positively contributing to Jordan’s overarching 2025 National Vision and National Green Growth Plan as well as the country’s National Climate Change Policy,” the statement concluded.
