Health Ministry Receives Ambulance from EU-IGAD to Combat COVID-19 –

The Ministry of Health on Tuesday received an ambulance, with complete life support, from the European Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
The ambulance meant to be taken to Malaba to assist in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, was delivered at the Ministry of Health headquarters in Kampala by the IGAD Head of Mission in Uganda, Lucy Daxbacher and the representatives of the EU and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). UNOPS UNOPS is the project manager of the €60m (Shs 250bn) EU-IGAD COVID-19 Response Programme funded by the European Union and implemented by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development.
During the handover of the ambulance from the response program, Lucy Daxbacher said it is going to help in the referral and the management of critical cases.
“This advanced ambulance worth approximately 55,000 Euros, has complete life support equipment, including an Intensive Care Unit set up, for the management and referral of critical medical cases,” said Daxbacher.
She said the EU-IGAD COVID-19 Response Program is aimed at mitigating the health and Socioeconomic impact of COVID-19 in the 7 countries in the region. The countries include: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda.
“Under the Programme, 802,230 PPEs (personal protective equipment), 25,054 COVID-19 test kits and 2 standard ambulances have already been delivered in Uganda to support the country tackle the COVID-19 pandemic,” she said.
The border points benefiting from the Programme are Elegu, Busia and Adjumani refugee settlement. It is meant to support cross border communities and vulnerable populations and improve health response during the ongoing pandemic.
Ministry of Health Uganda welcomed the support and promised to put it to its intended purpose. The ambulance was immediately handed over to the Chief Administrative officer of Busia district.
