Help with running a charity or local group – Frome Times

TRAINING sessions for staff and trustees of local charities and community groups are being offered by Frome Town Council.
The council is offering a training session for staff and trustees of local charities and community groups to learn all about good governance.
The course takes place online over two days on Tuesdays 12th and 19th October from 10am-12pm. It is ideal for community group members who are interested in formalising what they do, as well as new or more experienced trustees from organisations of all shapes and sizes.
Cllr Mark Dorrington said, “Strong governance should run across all elements of a charity’s work such as the long-term direction of the organisation, implementing policies and activities to achieve objectives and complying with legal requirements. This training will help you say so-long to any worries you might have and give you the knowledge and confidence you need to lead your charity.
“The sessions will be led by Lindsay Driscoll, a charity law and governance expert with over 30 years’ experience in the sector who will also answer any burning questions that have been keeping you up at night.
“The first session will give an overview of governance and look at the different ways voluntary organisations can be set up, such as charities, community interest companies, companies limited by guarantee etc. It will go on to consider the legal duties and liabilities of charity trustees and committee members/board members and the Charity Code of Governance.
“This will be followed by a further session a week later that will outline governance in practice including roles of officers and committees, meetings, risk management, membership and behavioural governance. Both sessions will be very interactive and will try to explore the issues most important for the participants.”
Tickets are free but must be booked in advanced, please note that the training takes place over two sessions. Book by visiting https://bit.ly/FromeGovernanceTraining
