Guyana energy watch: Gas to power, upstream … – BNamericas English

Guyana’s natural resources ministry has extended the deadline to submit expressions of interest (EOIs) for a natural gas to power project.
The new date is September 14, according to a notice from the ministry, which issued the call in July.
Earlier this month, the national assembly passed the Petroleum Exploration and Production (Amendment) Bill which minister Vickram Bharrat said will help advance the project; and Guyana’s President Mohamed Irfaan Ali and his Suriname counterpart Chandrikapersad Santokhi agreed to create a working group to pursue a joint gas strategy.
Also in August, Guyana Power & Light began testing the 46.5MW Garden of Eden dual-fuel plant.
On the upstream front, Maersk Drilling reported that CGX Resources and Frontera Energy Guyana exercised an option to drill one additional exploration well offshore Guyana.
“The work is expected to commence in the first half of 2022 in direct continuation of the semi-submersible rig Maersk Discoverer’s [pictured] contract with Shell Trinidad,” Maersk said in a statement.

For its part, Hess completed the sale of its subsidiary Hess Denmark for US$150mn, which “will be used to fund our world class investment opportunity in Guyana,” CEO John Hess said.
Hess holds a 30% stake in Guyana offshore block Stabroek alongside operator Esso Exploration and Production Guyana (EEGPL) (45%) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana (25%).
In a related development, EEGPL recently submitted an environmental authorization application to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for a 12 well exploration and appraisal drilling program at the Canje offshore block.
The EPA said “the project will not significantly affect the environment and is therefore, exempt from the requirement of an environmental impact assessment” but that an environmental assessment and management plan will be required. Appeals may be filed.
