Delmas Spar rewards bravery, supports charity – Ridge Times

As an initiative by the local Spar in Delmas to thank and show their gratitude, they donated money to the brave men who were and still are involved in keeping the town safe.
During the recent looting and unrest in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng, threats also surfaced that Delmas could fall under attack from a group from Gauteng.
Various groups from Delmas took hands and decided that their town would not fall victim to looters. For two weeks, these people worked tirelessly by doing patrols, assisting the police at roadblocks and keeping the town safe.
In the light of this brave behaviour, Spar decided to pay it forward and donated vouchers to the value of R20 000 to the brave groups as well as various welfare groups, struggling through the Covid-19 pandemic. Leaders and representatives from the various groups gathered Friday, August 6, at the local Spar in Delmas for a short ceremony in which the vouchers was handed over.

“Your effortless time and courage never went unnoticed. We at Delmas Spar really felt safe and secure coming to work and we are certain that our customers felt the same. We as the management and staff therefore would like to thank and show our appreciation towards the brave men that protected out town in freezing weather. It makes us proud to be a part of a community that stands together like one man during times of need,” Mr Tony Paraskeva said on behalf of the owner of Spar, Mr Peter Paraskeva.
Safety organisations that received vouchers were the Botleng Antihijack Unit and the Delmas Valke Neighbourhood Watch.
Charity organisations in need of help which received a grocery shopping voucher of R2 000 each, are Dalifundo, Tutela Family Care (CMR), Vukuzenzele Crèche, Botleng Old Age Home, Ekukhanyeni Home Base Care and Ons Eie Old Age Home.
“Delmas is proud to have such people with such great leadership who are unselfishly taking time out of their own lives to keep other safe,” Mr Tony Paraskeva concluded.

  1. When I initially commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each
time a comment is added I get four e-mails with the
same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that
    service? Appreciate it!
