Uganda registers highest daily increase of new COVID-19 cases in second wave – Xinhua | – Xinhua

KAMPALA, May 28 (Xinhua) — Uganda’s ministry of health on Friday said the country had recorded 637 new cases of COVID-19, the highest daily increase in the second wave of the virus, which brought the total number of infections to 45,231.
Out of the 4,697 samples collected on Wednesday, 637 contacts and alert cases tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the ministry said in a statement, adding that a total of 400 cases were reported in the capital, Kampala, and six were cross-border cargo truck drivers.
The statement said a total of 43,401 recoveries and 361 deaths have been registered since the outbreak was declared in the east African country in March last year.
A total of 565,163 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 using AstraZeneca vaccine, according to the ministry. Enditem
