EGEC Consultation on geothermal EIA and licensing – ThinkGeoEnergy

EGEC has issued a call for participation to geothermal stakeholders on two consultations on geothermal Environmental Impact Assessment and licensing.

The European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) has published an invitation to all geothermal stakeholders to take part in the two consultations below on Environmental Impact Assessment and licensing.
Harmonized procedure on the Environmental Impact Assessment for geothermal development in Europe
The objective of this document is to provide recommendations for drafting guidelines for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for deep geothermal projects, drawing upon the experiences of the authors and the development in Europe, taking into account the present legislation, national and European, regarding the EIA. The document aims to help prepare quality EIA reports, ensuring that the best possible and complete information is made available during the decision-making process.

Harmonised European Geothermal Licensing Guidelines
This document stands as the Geothermal Licensing Guidelines to harmonize the regulatory framework for more efficient licensing and environmental impact assessment procedures in Europe. The text is an updated version of the Geothermal licensing guidelines prepared in the framework of the GEOENVI project, which includes output from the consultation of the ETIP Deep Geothermal Working Group on market uptake.
Coordination between the European Union regulators and the Member States is crucial to exchange best practices from industries and other key stakeholders, and to allow for a streamlined regulatory framework that is essential to accomplish new geothermal developments and achieve the European Green Deal goals.
